4 June, 2010 - Merida or What did the Romans ever do for us?

A relatively short walking day with Laia. It was her last day, and possibly mine also. We got a bit lost getting out of Torremeiga, missed some markers on the way out of town, and back tracked to ask at the service station and found we had been on the right path. Once we got off the main road the walk was through more lovely countryside on a quiet country track. After a short break along the way, I realised I had left my walking pole by the side of the track. Must be the last day. Sure enough, Yuri the Italian appeared alongside us later in the morning and we walked into Merida. We left Yuri at the bridge, he is getting the bus to Caceres. Finds all this Roman stuff boring. We stayed at a hotel in Merida, and had a great time looking around the arena, theatre and temple. Merida was the capital of Roman Spain. Laia got the bus to Madrid in the morning, and I looked around the town more. Went to Diana's temple, the hippodrome, the aqueduct, the museum, then got the bus to Caceres in the late afternoon.
